Naomi

What is it to be dedicated? Are you dedicated to someone? If so, how dedicated are you? There once was an Israelite woman named Naomi who had the dedication from one that was unexpected. The story of Naomi can be found in the Bible in the book of Ruth.

The book opens with Naomi and her husband Elimelech being from the little town of Bethlehem; they had two sons by the names of Mahlon and Chilion. There was a famine that had spread across the land; Elimelech decides to take his family to the nearby country of Moab because of it and settle down there. The following two paragraphs explain a possibility for this particular famine and where Moab was located during its existence.

The famine in Bethlehem apparently did not reach Moab, the Bible makes known two important facts concerning Biblical famines: first, they normally occurred in a local surrounding area, and they were not always massive in size; second, famines occurring because of local pests invading fields not only entirely destroyed all crops but also the needed seed for next years' planting.

Moab was located on one side of the Jordan valley; it was a mountainous strip of land located in now modern-day Jordan; it ran along the eastern shore of the Dead Sea. In ancient times, it was home to the kingdom of the Moabites who were often in conflict with their Israelite neighbors to the west. Moab occupied a plateau located around 3,000 feet above the Mediterranean, or 4,300 feet above the Dead Sea. It rose gradually from the north to the south; it was bordered on the west by the Dead Sea and by a section of the Jordan River. On its east side it was bordered by the Arabian Desert from which it was separated by low rolling hills. The northern boundary varied, but it generally was represented by an invisible line located miles above the northern part of the Dead Sea.

After settling down in Moab, Naomi's husband Elimelech dies and later on her two sons each take Moabites wives for themselves; one was named Orpah and the other Ruth; the couples along with Naomi dwelt in Moab for almost ten years. Afterward, the two brothers die and leave behind three widows; Naomi decides to return home to Bethlehem with her two daughters-in-law because she heard that there was food once again amongst her people. As Naomi makes her way toward Bethlehem,Christian Louboutin, she tells Orpah and Ruth to return to their own mothers, and remarry; she blesses them, kisses them and tries to send them on their way. Their hearts were broken though; they wept after Naomi kissed them and told them to leave her; they said to Naomi, "Surely we will return with thee unto thy people." Naomi told them once again to return home; Orpah gave Naomi a kiss and reluctantly turned back to her own kindred; the Bible says that "Ruth clave" to Naomi. Naomi looks at Ruth and says, chaussures christian louboutin, "Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people,Christian Louboutin Pas Cher, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law. And Ruth said, "entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, mbt schuhe, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me." Once Naomi saw that Ruth would not change her mind about returning to her own, Naomi allowed Ruth to stay; so, together they entered into the town of Bethlehem.

Naomi sincerely cared for her daughters-in-law and wanted the best for them. Ruth could have returned home to her family where she could have remarried; instead she dedicated her life to Naomi, christian louboutin soldes, Naomi's people, and above all Naomi's God. Once Naomi and Ruth settled down in Bethlehem, Ruth began working in the fields to provide for Naomi and herself.

I ask myself could I ever be dedicated to one as Ruth was to Naomi? However later on Ruth was fully rewarded for her dedication and she remarried and was among the grandmothers of Jesus.
